Hackers hit University of Michigan computers

Intruders gained access to some student records from the School of Education

The University of Michigan has notified 5,500 current and former students that a hacker has gained access to two School of Education databases that had personal information. University technology administrators noticed suspicious activity on a server July 3, and the letters went out the week of July 9. The university says the databases contained no financial information, such as credit card numbers. Nor did they contain students' grades. The databases did have names, addresses, some Social Security numbers and birth dates, and in some cases, the school districts where former students were teaching.
