Florida district adds teachers to meet class-size mandates

From The St. Petersburg Times: The Hernando County (Fla.) school district has added 15 teachers and 16 long-term substitutes as of last week to help bring class sizes into compliance with more stringent state mandates. Adding those staffers will cost roughly $1.2 million. The district has also approved about $300,000 in supplemental pay for teachers who take on additional classes, and that figure is expected to double in the coming weeks. That would bring the cost to about $1.7 million.
