Illinois village says no to saving old schoolhouse

The final bell has likely sounded for the old Lindbergh schoolhouse in Hoffman Estates, Ill., after trustees decided that the price of preserving the 77-year-old building was too high. The building was last used as a school in the 1940s. The Village Board rejected an agreement designed to spur renovation of the building. Village President William McLeod said the renovation could cost $500,000 and he did not believe that the Museum Foundation could raise much more than the $100,000 being donated by a developer.
