In addition to keeping the schools open, board says it will create a new high school

From The Indianapolis Star: In a quick reversal, Indianapolis Public Schools officials have abandoned a proposal to close two elementary schools and now plan to open a new high school that would serve high-ability students. After public outrage over the district's proposal to close Schools 107 and 109, the board announced that the two schools would remain open next year. The new high school, which would open for the 2012-13 school year, would be at Gambold Middle School and would house students that have participated in academically advanced programs.

EARLIER....from The Indianapolis Star: Indianapolis Public Schools have unveiled a redistricting proposal that would close two elementary schools next year. District officials say closing the campuses--Schools 107 and 109--would enable the district to forgo renovations at the two schools and use facilities more efficiently.
