From The Indianapolis Star: A woman is suing Indianapolis Public Schools, contending that her developmentally disabled son was left traumatized when a teacher's aide tied him to a chair with a belt at School 49. The boy, now 8, has been diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other problems. The lawsuit describes the aide's actions as psychological and physical abuse that violated the boy's constitutional rights to due process and caused him emotional distress. The suit also contends the treatment violated federal laws that guarantee people with disabilities equal access to public services and protect them from discrimination. The district's special education director says the aide involved has been disciplined.
