Indianapolis superintendent wants to eliminate two dozen administrative positions

Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent Eugene White will ask the school board to eliminate two dozen administrative positions as part of a $26.4 million budget reduction. Those cuts come in addition to layoff notices being sent to as many as 400 teachers as enrollment continues to shrink. The board voted last month to notify 79 administrators that their contracts may not be renewed, and any layoffs would come from that list.

FROM JANUARY 2009: The Indianapolis Public School Board will notify 79 administrators that they may lose their jobs next year, some as part of the district's cost-cutting measures and some because of poor performance. Superintendent Eugene White says some of those administrators' positions will be eliminated -- at least 10 positions, but not significantly more than that. Other administrators at high schools and middle schools may lose their jobs because of poor job performance. The move comes as the district seeks to trim $25 million from its budget as enrollment shrinks and as it seeks to improve its high schools.To read The Indianapolis Star article, click here.
