From The Washington Post: The Prince George's County (Md.) school board intends to offer Interim Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. a four-year contract to run the district. The board scheduled a meeting for Friday to vote on the decision.Hite has filled in as chief of the 128,000-student system since Dec. 1, after John E. Deasy abruptly resigned as superintendent after 2 1/2 years in office. If Hite is hired, it would be the first time he has served as a full superintendent.

FROM DECEMBER 2008: A new superintendent takes over Prince George's County (Md.) schools today, pledging to stick to the far-reaching academic goals of his predecessor but handicapped by the possible slashing of millions of dollars from his budget. William R. Hite Jr., who has two decades of educational experience in Virginia and Georgia, will serve as interim superintendent of the 130,000-student system as the school board searches for a permanent successor to John E.
