International student numbers rise 8% at U.S. campuses

From The New York Times: For the eighth consecutive year, India is the leading country of origin for international students at U.S. colleges and universities. It sent 103,260 students, a 9 percent increase over the previous year. Meanwhile, China is rapidly catching up, sending 98,510 last year, a 21 percent increase. In total, the number of international students at colleges and universities in the United States increased by 8 percent to an all-time high of 671,616 in the 2008-09 academic year — the largest percentage increase in more than 25 years, according to the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange.
