Judge says Palm Beach County (Fla.) district can force families to sell land

District wants to build middle school and bus depot.

Two families this week lost a fight to keep the Palm Beach County (Fla.) school district from taking their land for a middle school and bus depot. Circuit Judge David Crow ruled the school board is justified in taking the nearly 42 acres. The families believe the land is worth far more than the school board is offering. If an agreement can't be reached, a jury will decide how much taxpayers will pay for the land. The district has to put up $13.7 million while the negotiations proceed.
