Kansas City selects another interim superintendent

Clive Coleman will be the 25th superintendent in 39 years
While its search for a permanent superintendent continues, the Kansas City (Mo.) school board has named another interim leader. Clive Coleman, the district’s chief academic officer, will step in for retiring interim Superintendent John Martin, who’s leaving Oct. 31 after nine months on the job. Coleman will be Kansas City’s 25th superintendent in 39 years, including many interim and acting superintendents. To read The Kansas City Star article, click here.

FROM JUNE 2008: The Stockton, Calif., school board has selected former Kansas City, Mo., superintendent Anthony Amato to lead its district. Amato, who was ousted in Kansas City earlier this year, has previously led the New Orleans and Hartford, Conn., systems. He also has been an administrator in New York City schools. FROM JANUARY 2008: Kansas City (Mo.) School Superintendent Anthony Amato, who came to the district with a vast vision for its struggling schools, has resigned. Amato and the school board ended days of speculation with a joint announcement that Amato will step aside immediately as superintendent, but stay on as a consultant through the end of the year. Amato previously served as superintendent in Hartford, Conn., and New Orleans, and as an administrator in New York City. Former Grandview (Mo.) Superintendent John Martin will serve as interim superintendent--the 24th person to lead the Kansas City district in 39 years. (Kansas City Star)
