FROM JANUARY 2008: Kansas City (Mo.) School Superintendent Anthony Amato, who came to the district with a vast vision for its struggling schools, has resigned. Amato and the school board ended days of speculation with a joint announcement that Amato will step aside immediately as superintendent, but stay on as a consultant through the end of the year. Amato previously served as superintendent in Hartford, Conn., and New Orleans, and as an administrator in New York City. Former Grandview (Mo.) Superintendent John Martin will serve as interim superintendent--the 24th person to lead the Kansas City district in 39 years. (Kansas City Star)
