Ex-NBA'er Kevin Johnson may try to open school in Chicago

Former NBA guard Kevin Johnson, now an education entrepreneur, is looking at taking over one of Chicago's struggling schools, as it did in 2003 at Sacramento High School. The application period opens Monday for the fifth round of applicants seeking to create new schools in Chicago under Mayor Daley's Renaissance 2010 initiative. Johnson's St. HOPE education group took over the high school, which Johnson attended, added a preschool and elementary school, and helped establish 14 businesses within a two-mile radius of the campus.
