Indiana district may close middle school to cut costs

FromThe Indianapolis Star: The Lawrence Township (Ind.) School District is considering closing Craig Middle School to save $5 million in renovation costs and cut about $3.6 million a year in operating expenses. A proposal to close Craig has emerged as the leading option for the district, which faces a $3.2 million budget shortfall because of reduced property tax revenues. Under the proposal, sixth-graders would attend elementary schools, and Belzer and Fall Creek Valley middle schools would remain open for seventh- and eighth-graders.
