Texas district approves plans for regional stadiums

Mar 3, 2008 1:19 PM

The Leander (Texas) school board is moving ahead with plans to renovate its only stadium and build new ones. Board members have approved spending $40 million to upgrade the 10,500-seat Bible Stadium; build a 10,000-seat regional stadium near Vista Ridge High School; and construct a 5,000-seat stadium at the district's fifth high school. A 28-person committee of coaches, parents and community members had preferred to construct individual facilities at each high school, but the board rejected that proposal because of concerns about cost, logistics, transportation and growth projections. The quickly growing district expects to have 28,954 students in 2008 and 58,618 students by 2017.
