District plans to lengthen school day in 2012-13

From The Chicago Tribune: In light of the Chicago school system's plan to impose a longer school day throughout the district in 2012-13, the Chicago Teachers Union is asking for raises amounting to 30 percent over the next two years. The union's proposal seeks a 24 percent raise in the 2012-13 school year and a 5 percent increase the following year; the net effect is a 30 percent hike. The school system intends to lengthen the instructional day in the fall by 90 minutes.
