Longer school days in Framingham, Mass.

Educators in Framingham, Mass., are embracing the idea of a longer school day, allowing students to get more academic time, more time to build relationships with teachers, and even more time to spend on what enrichment programs, including yoga, math games, even nature walks. As part of an educational experiment that is gaining ground in Massachusetts, two Framingham schools will move from six-hour days to eight-hour days this fall. Brophy Elementary School and Cameron Middle School will join about two dozen other schools statewide in a program, funded through grants, called Expanded Learning Time.
