Los Angeles mayor wants charter groups to gain control over more schools

From The Los Angeles Times: The mayor of Los Angeles is siding with local charter schools in their latest bid to take over new and low-performing campuses. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa spoke one week before a deadline for applicants to submit bids for nine new campuses and eight low-performing ones in the Los Angeles Unified School District. In the first round of the competition in February, groups of teachers were given control over the vast majority of campuses. Charters emerged with only four successful bids
