Expansion will create high school in New Orleans Lower 9th Ward

The first public school to return to the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina will open a high school in the recovering community. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School for Science and Technology, which serves students in grades preK to 8, will start a freshman class in 2008-09. The school will add a grade each year and serve 40 students in each grade. The expansion establishes the first public high school in the Lower 9th Ward since the 2005 storm season.
