Man charged in bomb threat at Louisiana State University

Threat prompted officials to evacuate Baton Rouge campus

From The Baton Rouge Advocate: A Baton Rouge, La., man faces federal charges after he allegedly called in a bomb threat to Louisiana State University. William Bouvay Jr., 42, was charged with one count of willfully conveying false information concerning the attempt to destroy property by means of explosives. Bouvay also faces local charges. Bouvay called in the bomb threat on Sept 17, and campus officials responded by evacuating the campus and canceling classes and other activities for the day.

Statement from Louisiana State University: “All campus building have been returned to normal operations and the campus is now open for students, faculty and staff. All classes and events scheduled for Sept.18 will be held as planned, and university employees and students should plan to return to their normal schedules.” LSU Police still are investigating the bomb threat that someone called into authorities Monday.

ALSO...from The Baton Rouge Advocate: The Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge, evacuated Monday because of a bomb threat, has been reopened. Technicians and bomb-sniffing dogs combed through the 250-plus buildings on campus to make sure they were safe. Students were allowed to return to residence halls at 6 p.m.
