32-year-old student was shot by police after he pointed a gun at them

From The Los Angeles Times: A 32-year-old man shot by police at the University of California Berkeley has died. Christopher Travis, who was student, had demonstrated erratic behavior in the past, including possible suicide attempts, police say. Travis died of his wounds at a hospital after being shot by a campus police officer in the school's computer lab. Police say Travis pointed a loaded handgun at officers and refused orders to drop the weapon.

The unidentified suspect, described as a white man in his 20s, was the only person injured and was taken to a hospital in Oakland. There was no word on his condition. The campus already had been bracing for the arrival of Occupy Oakland marchers hours later, and many were wondering whether the two events were more than just a coincidence.
