Many elementary school campuses in Chicago are going to year-round schedules

April 23, 2009
132 of 483 elementary schools will be on year-round schedule for 2009-10

From The Chicago Sun-Times: The Chicago school board has voted to put more than a quarter of public elementary schools on a year-round schedule. That adds up to 132 of 483 elementary schools that have traded the traditional summer vacation to start classes a month earlier, with several two- to three-week breaks staggered throughout the year. The district emphasized that schools are choosing voluntarily to go year-round. But crowded classrooms have forced some schools to make the switch.
