Marblehead, Mass., voters approve funds for elementary school

New building will house 425 students in grades K to 3

From Marblehead Patch: Marblehead, Mass., residents have approved the construction of a new Glover Elementary School. The new facility will be 79,108 square feet and will be built on the same site as the existing school. The new building will accommodate the population of Glover and Eveleth schools--425 students from kindergarten through the third grade.

Voters in Marblehead, Mass., will decide on June 14 whether to approve a $15 million bond request that would provide the local share of constructing a new elementary school. The new school would house 425 students in grades K to 3. If voters authorize the bond issue, the Massachusetts School Building Authority would cover $10 million of the $25 million cost.

JUNE 2010.... From The Daily Item: Marblehead, Mass., voters have rejected a proposal to spend $28.8 million on a new Glover-Eveleth School. The $28.8 million building cost included $11.18 million in Massachusetts School Building Authority reimbursement, or 40 percent. The question garnered 2,953 "No" votes and 2,882 "Yes" votes - a 71-vote loss. Other tax questions defeated in Marblehead: $1.5 million for artificial turf at the Marblehead High football field and $450,000 for furniture and technology purchases for the new Marblehead Village School.
