Marblehead, Mass., is planning a $21.7 million renovation of
Village School. The 123,000-square-foot facility, which houses more than 700 students in grades 4 to 6, needs a new heating and cooling system, accessibility upgrades, fire safety improvements, new ceilings, lighting and other electrical upgrades, new roofs and windows, and technology enhancements. The town estimates that a new school would cost $50 million and would not be eligible for state reimbursement. The renovations, on the other hand, are eligible for at least 40 percent reimbursement from the state. The architect is
