Jordan heir insists on Air Jordans, costs university its contract with adidas

Nov 6, 2009 12:33 PM

From The Orlando Sentinel: Marcus Jordan, playing basketball for the University of Central Florida, has stuck to his guns and is wearing his father's Nike Air Jordans, a decision that has cost the University of Central Florida its six-year, $3 million exclusive contract with adidas.   Adidas spokeswoman Andrea Corso says: "The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to adidas. As a result we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward." UCF Athletics Director Keith Tribble says he was surprised by the statement from adidas.

UPDATE: The impact of the University of Central Florida's messy divorce from adidas still is being calculated. The university is awaiting official word that its relationship with the shoe company is over. Adidas has not responded to media inquiries since releasing its initial statement, leaving numerous questions about how exactly it will go about cutting ties with UCF.
