Chicago begins the school year with 171 new principals.

Chicago public schools have begun the academic year today with 171 new principals -- an unprecedented wave of new leadership that is filling the void caused by numerous retirements. Nationwide, about 56 percent of principals are over age 50, and they spend an average of five years in the job because of its demands and workload.
