Miami district looks to cut $284 million from 2008-09 budget

The Miami-Dade County school district is looking to cut more than $284 million from the school system's 2008-2009 budget. The board is considering postponing the salary increases promised to teachers, raising the price of school lunches and eliminating transportation for magnet- and vocational-school students. It also will explore closing up to a dozen underenrolled schools.
