From The Detroit Free Press: The Michigan Board of Education is urging school districts to rethink their zero-tolerance policies and look for alternative ways of disciplining students for incidents that don't affect the safety of schools. The board wants to reduce the number of suspensions and expulsions for nonviolent offenses, such as being chronically disobedient or insubordinate. Those students fall behind their peers and sometimes end up dropping out of school.
