Michigan district delays opening new buildings

To save money, Chippewa Valley decides not to open new middle school and two ninth-grade centers.

Three schools in the Chippewa Valley (Mich.) district will not open this fall as planned, a cost-cutting move that could save the district $2 million but would leave what was to be the new Seneca Middle School sitting empty in Macomb Township. In addition to not opening the new Seneca, the old Seneca--which was to become a ninth-grade center for Chippewa Valley High School in Clinton Township--will remain a middle school for at least another year. The district also is holding off on a ninth-grade center for Dakota High School in Macomb Township.
