Michigan districts offer incentives for attendance on Count Day

Maximizing student enrollment numbers boosts state funding

From The Detroit News: Today is Count Day in schools across Michigan, and districts need students to show up. For districts struggling with falling tax revenue and declining state aid, the official enrollment tally is crucial because enrollment numbers translate into state funding. To increase their enrollment numbers, some districts are offering incentives that include pizza parties, dress-down days, gift cards or cash.
