Michigan student drowns on school field trip

From The Saginaw News: A field trip to Mackinaw City, Mich. ended in tragedy after a 10-year-old student from the Saginaw district drowned in a Holiday Inn Express swimming pool. Jaylyn Ferguson, a fifth-grader at Zilwaukee School, was underwater for "a couple of minutes" when one of the children felt him at the bottom around the 5-foot mark, police say. Another student and brought him to the surface. There were 20 to 25 students in the pool at the time. The field trip included 38 fifth-graders, two teachers and 12 parent volunteers.
