Culinary arts teacher at South Lake High School will be placed on probation, lose teaching certificate

From The Detroit Free Press: A culinary arts teacher at South Lake High School in St. Clair Shores, Mich., has pleaded guilty to the attempted aggravated stalking of two students. Melissa Lavender, 32, agreed to turn in her teaching certificate and admitted to harassing male students, then 16 and 17, via telephone last June. In exchange for her guilty plea in Macomb County Circuit Court, prosecutors dropped more serious fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charges. The arrangement means Lavender will face a minimum of 5 years of probation, but no jail time.
