Milwaukee proposes sizable cuts in busing

District looks to cut transportation spending by $20 million

A Milwaukee School Board committee has voted "to reduce massive busing" within the school district, a step that could lead to major changes in the way the system functions and the options parents and students are given in selecting schools. The board's finance committee says that by the 2009-10 school year it wants $20 million cut from the amount the district spends on busing.
