Group wants to open public boarding school in Milwaukee

A coalition of philanthropists, educators, politicians and business leaders is trying to raise more than $30 million in private funds to open a Milwaukee school for at-risk students in three years. The group also plans to persuade legislators to allocate state funding for the college-prep program. The school would open in 2011 with 80 sixth-grade students from throughout southeastern Wisconsin and with an initial state contribution of around $2 million.
