ACLU says Minnesota charter school promotes Islam

Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy, a tax-supported public charter school in Minnesota, is blurring the line between religion and public education by promoting Islam, according to a lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota. The suit argues that the school violates the First Amendment by sharing space with the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, promoting prayer in school, and endorsing Muslim clothing rules and dietary practices. TiZA, founded in 2003, teaches 430 students in kindergarten through eighth grade at campuses in Inver Grove Heights and Blaine.
