From The Los Angeles Daily News: The guardians of two students allegedly abused by a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified District have filed suit against the teacher and the district. The suit contends that the students were molested at Telfair Elementary and that district officials failed to protect them. The two victims were 8-years-old girls when they were allegedly assaulted by their third-grade teacher, Paul Chapel III, during the 2010-11 school year. The suit argues that district officials ignored repeated complaints about Chapel's "sexually inappropriate behavior" while he was a teacher at Telfair. In mid-March, Chapel was fired by the district, and in May, prosecutors charged him with committing lewd acts against children.
From CBS Los Angeles: The mothers of 14 children at the center of the Miramonte Elementary School sex crimes scandal are suing the Los Angeles Unified School District. Attorney Luis Carrillo alleges that the district was negligent and did not protect children from sexual abuse. Former teacher Mark Berndt was arrested in January after he allegedly took photos of blindfolded and gagged students with a roach on their faces or semen-tainted spoons or cookies held to their mouths.
