Missouri senate says no to 4-day school weeks

From The St. Louis Post-Dispatch: The Missouri Senate has defeated a proposal that would have allowed school districts to hold class just four days a week. Sen. Brad Lager, who offered the four-day school week measure, says many rural districts are interested in the option as a way to save on fuel and utilities. But the Senate defeated Lager's amendment 16-13. Some senators expressed concern that the change could hurt educational quality. Other critics have argued that some parents might be unable to afford child care on a weekday when the child would otherwise have been in school.
