Former school official in Monroe County (Fla.) district sentenced to prison

From The South Florida Sun-Sentinel: The former adult education coordinator for the Monroe (Fla.) School District has been sentenced to eight years in prison for stealing $413,000 from the school system. Monique Acevedo also was ordered to pay restitution for the entire $413,012.43 she stole. The thefts occurred from 2006 to 2009, while her husband, Rancy Acevedo, was the county’s elected schools superintendent. Randy Acevedo was fired last year as schools superintendent after being convicted of official misconduct for covering up his wife's theft.
