Girl saves school bus, but can't avoid punishment

Mar 18, 2008 12:34 PM

Officials at Monterey Peninsula (Calif.) Unified School District will honor a Marina High School student who pulled a parking brake on an out-of-control school bus. Amanda Rouse, 15, was aboard the bus when the driver fell out of her seat as it was traveling through Seaside. Amanda jumped out of her seat and pulled the emergency brake to stop the bus. About 40 younger children were aboard. Despite her actions, Amanda received detention because she had failed to let her guardian and Marina High School know that she wasn't coming to school. She was getting a ride back from school on the bus when the incident took place.
