New Chicago mayor considers candidates for CEO of school system

Speculation centers on candidates from outside the city

From The Chicago Tribune: Rahm Emanuel, mayor-elect of Chicago, must choose a new CEO for the city’s school system, and he may be looking at candidates from outside the city. Some say Emanuel's short list includes Andres Alonso, who has led the Baltimore school system since 2007. The short list is also said to include Peter Gorman, superintendent of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) district; Jerry Weast, about to retire as school superintendent in Montgomery County, Md.; and John White, a deputy chancellor for New York City schools. Some also have speculated that Emanuel might pick Timothy Knowles, a former deputy superintendent of Boston's school system who is now director of the Urban Education Institute at the University of Chicago.
