New Hawaii school will ease crowding

Ewa Makai Middle is to open next year

From The Honolulu Star-Bulletin: A new public middle school projected to open in Hawaii's Ewa community next year will relieve crowding in the area. Ewa Makai Middle School will sit on 18.5 acres and cover 175,900 square feet. The $64.8 million facility will accommodate 700 seventh- and eighth-graders. The middle school will follow the standards of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The one-story enclosed school will feature an energy-efficient air-conditioning system, daylighting, an irrigation system and other sustainable features.
