Court orders state to spend $500 million more on poor school districts

From The Newark Star-Ledger: The New Jersey Supreme Court has left almost no one happy by ordering the state to spend $500 million more on poor school districts next year. Not the governor, not the two dissenting justices, and not the suburban school districts who felt shortchanged by the bitterly divided decision.

Earlier...from The New York Times: New Jersey’s Supreme Court has ordered the state to increase education aid by $500 million in the coming school year, saying that it had failed to meet its constitutional obligation to provide adequate educational resources for poor and minority children. The amount of additional aid the Supreme Court ordered was less than the $1.7 billion requested by some advocates, but the decision still was seen as a blow to Gov. Chris Christie.
