Officials in New Orleans look to get more out of school construction funds

From The New Orleans Times-Picayune: After a series of community meetings, education officials in New Orleans will review plans for renovating and rebuilding city schools damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Officials from the state-run Recovery School District and the local school board will look for ways to stretch what's left of roughly $2 billion in federal aid for school facilities to cover more projects. The proposed third phase of construction includes $422 million worth of projects with no source of financing, and school leaders and communities around the city are worried they will be left out of the rebuilding if city leaders can't come up with more funding.
