Plans maps out school construction for New Orleans schools

Aug 5, 2010 1:22 PM

From The New Orleans Times-Picayune: The Recovery School District in New Orleans, La., has released a plan for where each of its nearly 70 schools will be situated as it moves forward with a massive slate of construction and renovation projects. The challenges of rebuilding the New Orleans public school system after Hurricane Katrina are reflected in the school facilities themselves, many of which were damaged by the storm and levee breaches and were in poor condition to begin with. Five years after the storm, many students are beginning the school year in modular buildings or in aging buildings that desperately need renovation. Some schools are in makeshift facilities far from the neighborhoods where they would like to be.
