Proposed merger of 2 Louisiana universities is dead

From The Baton Rouge Advocate: The proposed merger of the University of New Orleans (UNO) and Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) is a dead issue after Louisiana House Speaker Jim Tucker conceded that he does not have the votes to pass the proposed legislation. A compromise with the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus would instead move UNO from the LSU System and into the University of Louisiana System, while forming a better working relationship among UNO, SUNO and Delgado Community College.

MARCH 2011...from The Baton Rouge Advocate: A report on a potential merger of the University of New Orleans and Southern University at New Orleans offers two recommendations, including a consolidation that would create the University of Greater New Orleans. The other option would maintain a separate “Urban Research University” and a “Metropolitan University,” but would still do away with SUNO’s historically black mission.
