Plan calls for former Catholic high school to house program for troubled teen-aged boys

From The New York Daily News: A plan to place a school for troubled teen-aged boys into the former Stella Maris High School in New York City has caught the neighborhood by surprise. Workers have been spotted moving furniture and other equipment into the building, which housed the Peninsula Prep charter school after Stella Maris closed in 2010. Martin De Porres, which runs several residential and educational programs for youngsters, is reportedly transforming the former all-girls Catholic high school into a program for 270 high school-aged boys. The lack of information has infuriated residents, who already feel the Rockaway neighborhood is saturated with halfway houses, drug treatment centers and other social service facilities.
