Aging high schools need work in New Berlin, Wis.

Despite its strong underlying structure, Eisenhower Middle/High School in New Berlin, Wis., the building needs $44 million in renovations. Meanwhile, a sewage treatment plant at New Berlin’s other high school needs to be replaced with a multimillion-dollar plant, or exchanged for a multimillion-dollar sewer line that hooks up to the city’s system. Across the country, thousands of educational buildings built in the 1960s — like Eisenhower and New Berlin West Middle/High School’s sewage treatment plant — need major repairs.
