Northern Illinois University plans cancer treatment center

Northern Illinois University plans to begin construction on a $159 million proton therapy cancer treatment center in West Chicago. The Northern Illinois Proton Treatment and Research Center will be situated on a 15-acre site in the DuPage National Technology Park, contiguous with the northern boundary for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The would 110,000-square-foot center will have four separate treatment rooms, one dedicated research room, two gantries, two fixed-beam rooms and areas for training and education.
