Help for students returning to New Orleans

In New Orleans, the Recovery School District's Welcome School is a center designed to provide an entry point for Katrina-displaced families returning to the city and its now-complicated array of public schools. The center opened in early November and is seeing a spike in families coming back to the city for the holidays. The school's mission is an indication of how far the district has come in the past few months. Last school year, students sometimes waited weeks to get assigned to a school; now, they rarely wait more than a day or two.
