Nonprofit group persuades teachers to commit to Gulf Coast

Teach For America group says 250 recent college graduates have agreed to teach in the New Orleans area.

In 2008-09, the national nonprofit Teach For America will more than double the number of new teachers placed in the greater New Orleans area compared with 2007-08. Teach For America has tapped 250 recent college graduates committed to teaching for two years in schools in Orleans, Jefferson and St. John the Baptist parishes starting in the 2008-09 year. I, The group placed 112 new teachers in the three parishes in 2007-08.
