Officials say district's School of the Arts is more expensive that other magnet programs
From The San Antonio Express-News: Officials at North East Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas, may ax a popular magnet school program in an effort to save money. Superintendent Richard Middleton say he may recommend sharply cutting or shuttering The North East School of the Arts. Of North East’s eight high school magnet programs, the arts school has the highest per-student cost. Students in the program must audition for a spot and can focus on one of seven majors, including musical theater, dance, voice and visual arts. The school's teachers also are working artists with significant training and experience in their disciplines.
